Golconda Fort
Golconda was once a mud-built fort originally built by the Kakatiyas of Warangal in 1143 AD. During the kingdom of Raja Pratap Rudra Dev, a shepherd suggested constructing a fort on this hill. The Raja welcomed the idea and constructed a bulwark, calling it after the name of the shepherd. "Golla" means Shepherd and "Konda" means hill thus came to the name GOLCONDA.
The fort was later reinforced by masonry by the Bahamanis and eventually expanded into a massive fort by the Qutub Shahi Kings.
